Chelsea Clinton’s Wedding Details Held As State Secrets
Chelsea Clinton will marry 32-year-old Marc Mezvinsky on July 31but the details of this upcoming event are being held as the state secrets. Chelsea’s mother, Hillary, is said to have been closely involved in all aspects of the planning, but she keeps silence.
“My lips are sealed,” the Secretary of State told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell over the weekend. “I am under very strict orders not to talk about it, and I think for the right reasons, because it is her [wedding], and it is a family wedding. The people coming are her friends and people who have been meaningful in her life, as it should be.”
Nevertheless, the New York Times managed to found out something about the wedding, which I said to be the event of the year in the US. Reporters Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Nate Schweber wrote that their investigations were very difficult because everything “is so cloaked in secrecy that … details are harder to ferret out than the president’s Afghanistan strategy.” Still, the details they’ve discovered are quite juicy.
It seems that the wedding will take place at the Astor Courts, a century-old, 13,000-square-foot Beaux Arts pavilion in Rhinebeck, N.Y. It’s a Versailles-style mansion about two hours north of the city and it was built for John Jacob Astor IV to imitate the Grand Trianon in Versailles. About 400 people are expected there to attend the event, Oprah Winfrey, Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg and Barack Obama being on the ultra-exclusive guest list.
The ceremony and the reception are planned by the best in this field: the wedding planner is Bryan Rafanelli of Boston, Jeff Leatham, artistic director of the Four Seasons George V hotel in Paris, is doing the flowers and Jimmy Vali, president of Vali Entertainment in Norwood, N.J., is coordinating the music. As a result, nothing can go wrong and Chelsea will have the wedding of her dreams.
The 30-year-old bride will wear Oscar de la Renta or possibly Vera Wang, but she will not be appearing in Vogue in the run-up to the wedding like Jenna Bush.
