March Ended With Two Famous Engagements
Actress Amy Huberman got engaged to her Grand Slam winning boyfriend on the evening of March 28, 2009, when Brian O’Driscoll used flowers to pop the question “Will You Marry Me?”. Flowers have long been believed to possess a language of their own, so the prospective groom chose the garden of their shared Dublin abode for the proposal, as the Irish Independent reports.
The proposal comes at the end of one of the most memorable weeks in Irish rugby history, following on from the team’s Six Nations triumph on 21 March. The team arrived home from Cardiff to a hero’s welcome and have been widely hailed for lifting the Republic’s gloom.
“It’s been on the cards for quite a while and it was more a question of when and not if,” said one of their friends to The Belfast Telegraph. “They’re absolutely mad about each other. Everyone’s delighted for them as it caps off an amazing seven days for both of them.”
“We are both thrilled,” said the RTE presenter. “No date has been set yet or anything. We’re just enjoying the news and celebrating the engagement. I’m over the moon about it.”
And rugby star Brian couldn’t hide his happiness when he appeared at the Leinster/Ulster clash in Dublin’s RDS on Sunday. When asked about his pending nuptials, Brian responded: “I’m delighted, I’m delighted.”
The bride-to-be, known to television viewers from her role on the drama series The Clinic, will soon embark on a separate career path as a romance novelist. Her first tome to be released in the summer of 2009, the TV star may find inspiration in her own love story for another novel as she starts this latest chapter in her life. Currently enjoying their first days of betrothed bliss, the pair have not announced a date for their walk down the aisle.
Furthermore, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, in the States, another beautiful young star said “I do!” to the old question. You all know the chocolate beauty, Isis King, who unfortunately didn’t win America’s Next Top Model when she was a contestant on the show’s 11th cycle. Well, God gave her the biggest prize: a marriage proposal! On Monday, King’s boyfriend, Desmond, got down on one knee while she was on The Tyra Banks Show and asked King to marry him. King had thought she was on the show to open up about her sex change operation last year. “I’m very shocked,” King told Tyra cameras afterward. “We’ve been talking about this kind of thing for a while but I would never have thought that it would happen on this show. I’m very happy. We’ve been best friends for almost three and a half years now. He’s everything I want.”
According to People, King then giggled before giving a Beyoncé “Single Ladies” hand wave and saying: “He put a ring on it!” Said King’s new fiancé: “I feel blessed. I feel like I’m complete.”
