Salma Hayek and French Magnate Pinault Tied The Knot On Valentine’s Day
It seems that Salma Hayek’s stormy relationship with French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault was no match for the sheer power of Paris on Valentine’s Day.
Salma Hayek and French magnate Francois-Henri Pinault picked a very romantic time and place to get married. On Valentine’s Day, in Paris, the happy couple said “I do”. An anonymous official at the City Hall in Paris’ chic 6th arrondissement told French magazine Le Point that the Mexican-born actress and Pinault tied the knot in a civil ceremony on Saturday. Then, Mayor Jean-Pierre Lecoq confirmed the report to the Agence France-Presse.
Salma Hayek, 42, was nominated for an Oscar in 2003 for the film “Frida,” the biography of the painter Frida Kahlo, which she produced and starred in. She has recently turned up in a memorable story arc on NBC’s “30 Rock” and in poverty-sticken Sierra Leone breastfeeding a hungry child. She is one of the executive producers of the hit series “Ugly Betty” and is also the chief executive of Ventanazul, a production company she formed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.
Henri Pinault, 46, is chief executive of the French luxury and retail group PPR SA, which owns high-end labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Puma.
The newlyweds had a stormy relationship, so their wedding comes as a bit of a surprise. The two met in Italy in 2006, had originally announced their engagement in March 2007 and had a baby, Valentina Paloma, in September 2007. Last year in July, they broke off their engagement though there had been recent reports they had reunited. However, it seems they made up a few months later.
According to People magazine, a Paris trip in September (when Hayek attended the Balenciaga fashion show) and another in November helped rekindle the pair’s relationship. Adds a source, they were “very evidently in love with each other, very affectionate in public” together at the Dubai Film Festival in December. Only last week, Hayek, who’s been appearing on NBC’s 30 Rock, told TV host Rachael Ray that when she kisses Alec Baldwin on the show, “I keep telling Francois, ‘I imagine I was kissing you.’ ”
The wedding was a small affair, said the official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, in accordance with policy. The nuptials followed a rocky romance.
